Mission

The mission of the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE) is to:

  • Provide excellent education in Economics, Business Economics, Econometrics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, and Economics of Taxation at Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels to qualified, motivated, and internationally oriented students.
  • Conduct groundbreaking, internationally focused research in Economics, Business Economics, Econometrics, Actuarial Science, and Data Science with a high academic impact.
  • Generate positive societal impact by producing well-trained, responsible graduates and valorising societally relevant research outcomes.

Ambition

In line with its mission, ASE aims to:

  • Educate Bachelor's students to be competitive in the national and international labour market and qualified for admission to any related Master's programme worldwide, with top students able to enter related Research Master's programmes.
  • Educate Master's students to be highly competitive in the national and international labour market, with top students able to enter leading Research Master's programmes.
  • Educate PhD students to be well-qualified for academic careers at prestigious international research universities or high-profile policy institutions (such as the ECB, IMF, or World Bank).
  • Rank among the top-10 Economics departments in Europe based on research performance.

Strategic priorities

ASE’s vision on teaching, research, and personnel policy aligns with the strategic plan of the Faculty of Economics and Business (UvA EB), the University of Amsterdam, and national guidelines.
