The article AI-based systems adoption in business operations: barriers and performance effects has received the 2025 Runner Up Award from the academic journal Operations Management Research. The article was co-authored by Bart Lameijer and Šimon Hána, both with the Amsterdam Business School's Business Analytics section. The prize is awarded annually to a publication that stands out for its scientific quality, practical relevance and strong contribution to the field. According to the journal’s editors, the article was selected because of its outstanding quality, strong contribution to the field, and the significance of its insights for research and practice.
The study examines the adoption of AI systems in business operations. In particular, it focuses on the barriers organisations face when implementing AI and the effect the use of AI has on performance.
The article has a special origin. It builds on Hána's Master’s thesis, supervised by Dr Bart Lameijer. The thesis was later further developed into a scientific publication written by the Master’s student and co-author Lameijer. For Lameijer, Associate Professor of Business Analytics, the award is more than just recognition of the research itself. It also highlights the value of close collaboration between student and supervisor in developing research with academic and practical impact. He notes that they are honored by this international recognition and grateful to the editors of Operations Management Research for their appreciation of the work.
