A team of 4 Bachelor’s students from UvA Economics and Business (EB) represented the University of Amsterdam at the 2026 International Bootcamp and Case Competition, hosted by TU Dublin in Ireland. The team finished second overall among 10 participating universities during the event held from 19 to 23 January.

The UvA EB team - Mátyás Szűcs, Viktor Horn, Nelson Neumann, and Aman Swan, supported by their training coach Finn Lewis - secured second place overall, finishing just behind the University of South Carolina. In addition to the team result, Mátyás Szűcs was awarded Best Speaker, recognising his outstanding performance across the competition.

The event brought together 10 international teams and challenged students to apply strategic, financial and creative thinking under significant time pressure. The week began with an intensive bootcamp, during which students worked on 3 practice business cases, participated in company visits - to organisations such as Google - and explored Irish landmarks, gaining insight into Ireland’s business environment and culture.

The challenge

The bootcamp culminated in a 3-hour final case competition, focused on Marlfield House, a classic luxury hotel in Ireland. Teams were tasked with developing a strategy to address several key challenges, including high employee turnover, shifting trends in advertising and marketing, and long-term succession planning for the business. The UvA team delivered a comprehensive solution that combined strategic clarity with practical implementation, earning them a place on the podium once again.

The competition is part of the Case Club within the Sefa student association, supported by Professor Hans Borgman as faculty advisor. This result follows another strong performance earlier this year, when another UvA EB team achieved second place at an international case competition in Romania.
