Heinen obtained his Bachelor's degree (General Economics) and Master's degree (Macroeconomics) at UvA EB between 2002 and 2007. During a brief conversation with EB Dean Roel Beetsma, Heinen said 'I had the privilege of being taught by outstanding professors at UvA EB'.

He is expected to start his role as the Finance Minister in the new Dutch cabinet once the formation process is completed. The new cabinet was sworn in on 2 July.
