My research examines peer effects, how our colleagues influence our behavior. I have focused on two inter-related research areas that inform one another: the social side of creativity and innovation and the competitive implications of social judgements. In terms of creativity and innovation, the majority of my research has focused on science and scientists and has shown that the social context is a key contingency that influences the transmutation of novel information into creative or innovative ideas. My research into social judgments has shown that others' perceptions of our peers influences their evaluation of individual and firm actions ranging from the mobility of law firm partners to the impact of scientific knowledge. In sum, I attempt to contribute to our understanding of the micro-foundations of organization theory and strategic management by identifying the causes, boundary conditions, and mechanisms that link our colleagues
