Stanislav Avdeev

His project stood out in a highly competitive international call for research into the future of international education.

Avdeev works in empirical microeconomics, with a strong focus on the economics of education and health, under the supervision of Hessel Oosterbeek (University of Amsterdam) and Bas van der Klaauw (VU University Amsterdam).

His research examines how exposure to international students affects the native Dutch students over the long term. Using quasi-experimental designs over three decades of data, Avdeev finds that such exposure leads Dutch students to form more diverse social ties and develop more positive attitudes toward migration and international opportunities. This exposure doesn’t have any negative effects on their long-term economic outcomes.

This grant reflects the strength of Avdeev’s work in addressing how internationalisation shapes not just institutions, but people’s attitudes and future prospects.
