Research by Maarten Pieter Schinkel (ASE professor of Economics) and Leonard Treuren (ASE Microeconomics section researcher) has been nominated in 2 categories of the Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards competition. Their research explores corporate incentives to produce more sustainably.

The discussion paper Corporate Social Responsibility by Joint Agreement has been nominated in the Concerted Practices category. A book chapter, Green antitrust: friendly fire in the fight against climate changeis in the running in the General Antitrust category. Readers can also vote for the articles on the Concurrences website until 25 March.

Undermines CSR efforts

Their key contribution to a lively debate on Competition Policy and the Green Deal is that collaboration amongst competitors risks reducing their CSR efforts. This runs counter to green antitrust policy proposals to relax the cartel prohibition as long as competitors promise to promote sustainability. This is the viewpoint currently advocated by legal scholars and the Dutch competition authority.
