This was announced by Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Henk Kamp during the farewell party for Rinnooy Kan, who recently stepped down as chairman of the Social and Economic Council (SER). Queen Beatrix awards the distinction of Commander in the Order of the Netherlands Lion to people who have made exceptional contributions to society.

Kamp praised Rinnooy Kan’s vision and his strong ability to build bridges and achieve results in a time of political and economic instability. Rinnooy Kan has headed the SER for the past six years. Before that, he was also chairman of the Confederation of Dutch Industry (VNO) from 1991, which became the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) in 1995. Since 1 September 2012, Rinnooy Kan has been University Professor of Economics and Business Studies, specifically focusing on change processes at the micro and macro level.
