On Purple Friday we invite all students and staff members to join an interactive online event about sexual and gender diversity at the UvA. The theme is reflection on LGBTQI+ elements in the educational programmes, in the didactics as well as in the content of the programmes.
|Date||10 December 2021|
Studying at a university should be the time where you explore your own sexuality and gender. This can be great and liberating, but it requires a safe environment.
On Purple Friday we hope to draw attention to the fact that you can be yourself at the UvA and that we offer a safe environment for everyone. Unlike many other important diversity days that target the general public, Purple Friday is specifically aimed at students and teachers who want to show their solidarity with the LGBTIQA+ community.
In 2010 Purple Friday was organized for the first time in the Netherlands. It always takes place at the second Friday of December and is organized by the network of Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA) of the gay interest organization of the COC. The meeting this year is organised by UvA-Pride in cooperation with COC, Student-Pride and the Chief Diversity team.
The meeting is organised for both students and staff members and will be held in English.
Livestream from the Hybrid Learning Theatre. Only the speakers will be present, the audience can follow the event online.
