On 29 January, Klaas Knot, President of De Nederlandsche Bank (Dutch Central Bank) and professor of Monetary Stability at the University of Amsterdam, gave a guest lecture to third-year Economics Bachelor’s students in the Monetary and Fiscal Policy course.
More than 100 students attended his lecture on the subject of ‘The European sovereign debt crisis, the monetary policy response and the way forward’ in the Aula of the University of Amsterdam. He discussed the anatomy of the European sovereign debt crisis, the monetary policy response and the (possible) way forward (such as 'tilting the policy mix').
The guest lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session in which Knot answered questions on the challenges of the housing and stock markets booms, the development of cryptocurrencies (i.e. Bitcoins) and the upcoming Italian general elections.
