With the development of compliance departments at all major multinationals and the special attention international financial institutions are dedicating to combating corruption, FEB economics students believe that it is time to recognise corruption as an unwanted but integral part of the global economy. As a result, the focus during the conference will not be on describing scandals, but mainly on the analysis of the concept of corruption, local differences in business ethics, the prevention of abuses of power and strategies that can lead to a corruption-free future.

The programme consists of short lectures by, among others, Jeroen van der Veer (former CEO of Shell), Wibout de Klijne (crisis management expert Rabobank) and Marnix Somsen (partner De Brauw). In addition, 'Room for Discussion', the discussion platform of UvA economics, will be organising two panel discussions in which corruption and lobbying will be placed under the microscope.
