ACLE faculty member Maarten Pieter Schinkel has been appointed as member of the international advisory board of the Centre for Law, Economics and Society at University College London (UCL). The Centre was established in 2007 with the aim to reflect on the interaction of social sciences (mostly economics but not only economics) in legal decision-making. It will launch three research initiatives this summer that are closely related to Schinkel’s research:

(i) ‘economic evidence’ will examine the use of economic evidence and the engagement with different types of economic evidence in adjudication and law making in Europe, looking to various fields of practice, such as competition law, intellectual property, consumer protection, regulation;

(ii) ‘specialized courts and tribunals’ explores the operation of expert tribunals in a variety of legal fields relating to expert knowledge (mostly social sciences but also natural sciences);

(iii) ‘forensic economics’ discusses the emergence of a hybrid community of economists working in the context of litigation or government and thus developing double vocations (in the sense of Weber) and loyalties.
