CBS report based on Amsterdam School of Economics doctoral research

A report on the growth of online purchasing published by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on 23 May is based on research conducted by Quinten Meertens, a doctoral candidate at the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE) and Leiden University (UL).

In 2016 Dutch consumers purchased products totaling 1 billion euro at web shops in other EU countries. This is a 25% increase compared to 2015. At these web shops, clothing and shoes were the items most frequently purchased.

Quinten Meertens’ doctoral research

The title of Meertens’ doctoral research is Enriching official economic statistics using data-driven modelling techniques. The thesis supervisors are Cees Diks (ASE, UvA) and Jaap van den Herik (Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), UL). The co-supervisor is Frank Takes (Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, UvA and LIACS, UL).
